How to write a will: Are you prepared?

Are you prepared?

There are no promises in life, especially that we will have another tomorrow. We have to remind ourselves of how fragile life is, and to appreciate each and every day we have with our families and friends. Chances are, we will have a tomorrow. After we have a few hundred or few thousands of these tomorrows granted to us, we get comfortable with the idea, and lower our guard. In my opinion, most people don't give it a second thought at all.

What we do with our time is very important. Planning can be an incredible tool for any event, and writing your will should be no different. It is a plan. It is the plan of how your assets will be distributed upon your death. Without such a plan, your family may be in for a long and most difficult period of their life. It's bad enough to lose their loved one, but if there are things you need to say, or to do, or wish to give to a specific heir or beneficiary, then you should start planning now.

You can easily revisit your will, and make modifications as your situation changes. You may have more children, you may have a different spouse, or you may wish to donate a portion of your estate to your favorite charity. But without a will, or trust, the decision will go to a judge, as to how your assets are divided.

Take the time today, and put together a list of your accounts, beneficiaries and contacts, then go to Legal Zoom to Create Your Will. Do this today, it only takes a little time, and you can come back to it later for more modifications.

Who knows what tomorrow brings.
